Over Mitchell Falls

Over Mitchell Falls is an abstract response to the raw energy and vastness of the Kimberley , inspired by the memory of flying above the landscape by helicopter. Built with bright, vibrant acrylic colour and expressive, layered marks, the painting captures movement, turbulence and the overwhelming intensity of the Kimberley from the air. Created during the lockdowns, this was one of my first paintings - an intuitive and emotional starting point rather than a resolved destination. I still don’t consider it completely finished, yet it has remained on our wall ever since; a reminder of creative beginnings, uncertainty, freedom, and the impulse to keep painting.
