There was a particular sting in opening the email that began with the words, “Artwork Submission Not Accepted.”

Submitting work to my first art show felt equal parts exciting and terrifying.

Moving into my studio has felt less like stepping into a polished creative space and more like claiming a work-in-progress - which somehow makes it perfect.
