Red Shelter

Acrylic on canvas

Some paintings are made to share. This one was made to remember.

Red Shelter was inspired by our stay at The Potato Storage, our holiday lodging near Jökulsárlón Glacier in Iceland. Surrounded by sweeping plains, dark mountains and endless grey skies, the building stood as our source of warmth within an austere landscape.

Created in acrylic using a palette knife and richly textured layers, the painting explores the contrast between refuge and wilderness. The bold red structure anchors the composition, emerging from a restrained palette of charcoal, stone, cream and ochre that reflects Iceland’s dramatic terrain and muted winter light.
