Kayaking Boodjamulla
Acrylic on canvas
2021
61 × 61 cm
This painting captures a memory from a family holiday kayaking through the extraordinary landscape of Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park. Painted during the lockdown years, it became both an escape and a return - not only to a treasured place, but also to painting itself after time away from creative practice.
Using acrylic, I wanted to convey the stillness, colour, and immersive beauty of the waterways, where vivid reflections and towering gorge walls create an almost surreal atmosphere. Revisiting this moment through paint carried a strong sense of nostalgia and gratitude during a time when travel and connection to landscape felt distant.
The work remains deeply personal to me, holding memories of family, adventure, and rediscovering the joy of painting. It marked an important point in my creative journey.
